CYCLING CHALLENGE ASSIST CYCLISTS BATTLING EYESIGHT CONDITION

Over the years tens of thousands of Rands have been generated to contribute to the research of finding different cures for various eyesight conditions through Dis-Chem Ride For Sight cycle challenge. The Dis-Chem Ride For Sight,was held in partnership with the City of Ekurhuleni on Sunday, 20 February, contributes to research on finding cures that can assist in restoring eyesight to over 100 000 people across the country. Gavin Kilpatrick (38) is partially sighted, suffering from Stargardts disease, an eyesight condition that causes the degeneration of the central vision. He is an ardent cyclist who has represented the country at the Beijing Paralympics, a bronze medallist in track cycling and he is part of Retina South Africa's clinical trials to finding a cure to his ailment. Gavin Killpatric and his tandem partner Andries Van Der Merwe participated on the 66 KM route and did the time of 1:34: 49. The Dis-Chem Ride For Sight has over the years raised R10 million to contribute to Retina South Africa. Dusty Day conquered the 116KM route in the time of 2:34:14 and he was crowned the 2020 Dis-Chem ride for sight champion
