The African National Congress (ANC) will tomorrow, Monday the 15th of June 2020, commemorate the historic events of June 16, 1976 through an Alliance-wide dialogue and virtual address to be delivered by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The ANC salutes those young heroes and heroines of our nation and remembers the bravery of the class of 1976 who fearlessly fought a vicious and brutal regime, risking their own lives and that of their families in the process. We commemorate Youth Day in honour and memory of all young people who paid the ultimate price in pursuit of a just and equal education system that is consistent with a free and democratic society.
As part of the Alliance-wide commemorative dialogue, the ANC, its Alliance partners and the Progressive Youth Alliance are bringing together different young minds, perspectives, experiences and characters under one roof to shape the future.
The Alliance-wide Commemorative Program will be undertaken through three sessions to unfold as follows:
SESSION ONE: ANTI RACISM PICKET AS PART OF THE ONGOING ALLIANCE'S ANTI RACISM CAMPAIGN
TIME: 13H00-14H00 VENUE: CHIEF ALBERT LUTHULI HOUSE
The picket will be led by the Alliance National Officials and will also be broadcast live across our social media platforms. On instances of direct interaction only 15 participants will be allowed to join the picket with mandatory adherence to protocols as set out by the World Health Organisation to fight the coronavirus pandemic.
SESSION TWO: POLITICAL PROGRAM
Time: 14h00-14h30 Venue: Media Centre, Chief Albert Luthuli House
The Tripartite Alliance made up of the ANC, SACP and Cosatu as well as the Progressive Youth Alliance made up of the ANCYL,YCLSA, COSAS, SASCO and the Young Women’s Desk of the ANCWL will deliver their messages of support commemorating youth day.
SESSION THREE: PANEL DISCUSSION WITH A VIRTUAL KEY NOTE ADDRESS TO BE DELIVERED BY PRESIDENT RAMAPHOSA

Identified Young people from different sectors will participate in an online panel discussion identifying their own challenges and proposing solutions.
These young people are drawn from a range of sectors including, but not limited to:
Higher Education, Basic Education, Activists opposed to gender-based violence, Transport, Entertainment /Arts and Culture industry and Information Systems, Technology (4IR) Industry.
Respondents to issues to be raised by young people participating in the dialogue have been drawn amongst others from ANC Deployees in government, youth and gender activists.
