The FF Plus wants to reiterate its message that the taxpayers of South Africa are becoming resistant due to the government's wasting of their tax money.
They no longer want to pay tax because there is no service delivery and tax money is being stolen. The people of South Africa are getting fed up with the fact that their hard-earned tax money is being wasted. They will reach a point where withholding of tax will occur spontaneously. The failed e-toll system is a shining example of where the people said enough is enough. The Minister of Finance, Tito Mboweni, himself admits that radical structural reform of the economy, based on sound business principles, and is the only way in which the country's dire financial situation can be turned around.
He knows what he is talking about. He is the former governor of the Reserve Bank, he is competent, he has the necessary expertise and he knows how the country's economy works. He, however, has one problem: His hands are tied by the ANC's ideological policy. The Minister even took to social media where he tweeted that the ANC's ideological grip on the economy's throat sometimes makes him feel that he has to 'swallow a rock'. The FF Plus would like the Minister to know that politics and war are very much alike. The only difference is that in war, one is only killed once. In politics, it happens frequently and repetitively.
The Minister must ask himself how many more times he will have to be murdered, figuratively speaking, before the ANC will listen and come to its senses. When the Covid-19 restrictions were imposed and President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the R500 billion emergency fund, the President promised that the government will ‘make sure’ the money is not misappropriated. But then corruption thrived. The media reports on it almost daily. In Gauteng alone, there are allegations of corruption amounting to more than R2 billion, including money from the emergency fund. The corruption is so extensive that the President has been forced to appoint a special unit to investigate it.
Regarding this corruption, Minister Mboweni said that a tender is predominantly an 'ethical' contract and not a blank cheque that corrupt officials can use to cheat and steal. And yet that is exactly what is happening. The people of South Africa are not blind to this. They are sick of it. The government will have to get its house in order quickly to prevent a tax-revolt.
