Back2Kasie comedy show gives exposure to local artists

By: Lerato Moteane

On sunday (6th October) Back2Kasie held a comedy show at DKNY Lounge (Daveyton Ke New York) in Daveyton. People came in numbers to show their support to numerous comedy acts who made sure that they keep the audience entertained. Often times when people want to de-stress or escape from their problems, they need a good laugh to cheer themselves up, and comedy show gives them a sense of belonging.

Creative Director of Back2Kasie Comedy Show, Motlotlo Mmusi has been in the comedy industry for 10 years. He said, “not everyone has a sense of humour, some people left their homes to attend comedy show, but they don’t really know it.”

The comedy show was a free event; however the delivery that came from the artists was impeccable as it was mostly something that the audience could relate to. Comedy could take years before someone gets their big break/make it successfully in the industry. If you are passionate about it, you must not rush for money. The truth is, money is not going to come easy/soon, you should first try it as a hobby and then everything will fall into place, said Mmusi.

Nhlakanipho Khumalo started comedy in October 2016, it was his first time performing in Daveyton but in overall it was a good experience for him. He believes that everything has a start, be it good. “Comedy is doing well so far. We are growing, there are new talents, so platforms like these is where we get the exposure in order to progress further,” he said.

Thabiso Sparks, a stand-up comedian from Wattville says that “comedians are stressed; so we take our stress, we reverse it in psychology way so people can laugh. People need laughter and we make jokes about divorce/serious issues for instance,” he said.

Thabiso added “comedians have problem about free comedy shows, having the perception that people sometimes don’t come for laughter but to enjoy music. I’m actually proud and there’s no word to describe the feeling I’m having right now,he added.” Back2Kasie is still yet to host on-going shows around the City of Ekurhuleni in order to expand the brand and reach larger audiences.
