ELEVEN SPEEDSTERS WERE ARRESTED OVER THE WEEKEND ON R21, N12 AND N3 FREEWAYS

The EMPD High Speed Unit (HSU) arrested eleven motorists over the weekend on R21, N12 and N3 freeways for excessive speeding. The operations were conducted between Friday, 09 August and Sunday, 11 August. All arrested drivers were male.

On Friday morning between 11am and 15h00, five motorists in sedans aged between 26 and 40 were nabbed on R21 southbound between Griffiths & N12 exit for doing speeds of between 141 and 186km/h on this 100km/h zone.

On Saturday morning between 7am and 08h30 three drivers were arrested on N12 westbound between Sam Greene bridge and Germiston exit caught doing 163, 164 and 184km/h on this stretch of the freeway which is a 120km/h zone.

Sunday operations conducted on N3 southbound by the Rand Airport exit as well as on R59 southbound between Train Bridge and Kliprivier yielded three motorists for doing 162, 167 and 185km/h.

All the arrested speedsters were released on R1,000 bail after being charged for reckless and negligent driving. They are expected to appear in respective courts soon.
