FOURTEEN SPEEDSTERS NABBED OVER THE WEEKEND INCLUDING AN OFF DUTY MEDICAL DOCTOR CAUGHT AT 229KM/H

The EMPD High Speed Unit conducted speed law enforcement on Friday (27 Sept), Saturday (28 Sept) and Sunday (29 Sept), on the N3 by Grey avenue, R21 next to Emperors palace and N12 by Reading interchange freeways where fourteen (14) lawbreakers were apprehended. The weekend special operation took place in the mornings between 5:00 and 11:00.

On Friday in Alberton area, 3x drivers were arrested when clocked at the excessive speeds of between 143 and 161km/h on that 120km/h stretch of the N3 freeway direction south. Two male taxi drivers in their 30s (one driving a Toyota Siyaya and the other in a Toyota Quantum), claiming that it was rush hour, got nabbed between 6:40 and 7:30 for driving 143 and 144 instead of the required 100km/h. A 41year old male driver in a Ford Ranger Light Delivery Vehicle, who gave the excuse of rushing to Durban, was arrested at 07:20 for clocking 161km/h. The trio were taken to the Alberton police station.Phase two (2) of the speed operation was staged on Saturday, in Boksburg area between Griffiths on ramp and N12 bridge southbound where 5x motorists were caught doing speeds of between 150 and 229, on that 100km/h portion of the R21 freeway. At 5:40, the 32-year old male off duty Medical Doctor with 2x male passengers in a white BMW sedan, citing that they were rushing home, were stopped for clocking 229km/h. Other (four) motorists were nabbed for doing between 150 and 160km/h, giving reasons of being late for work. All five were transported to the Boksburg north police station.Meanwhile, on Sunday morning speed law enforcement operation yielded six (6) drivers arrested for exceeding the speed limit on the N12 freeway direction east between Reading interchange (R59) and Voortrekker off ramp. The arrested drivers clocked speeds of between 161 and 181km/h. A 31-year old male driver in a Hyundai Elantra sedan, was clocked at the speed of 181km/h, stating that he was rushing home and the rest (five) were driving between 161 and 179km/h claiming late for church, work, airport, Durban and home. The half dozen were escorted to the Alberton police station.


They were all charged with reckless and negligent driving. They are all expected to appear in the Palmridge and Boksburg Magistrate's
