HIGH SPEED CHASE IN RECOVERY OF A HIJACKED SEDAN – A SUSPECT NABBED

Yesterday (23 May) just before 15h15 in Villa Liza area next to Dawn Park, a blue Nissan Almera sedan fitted with a tracker kit, was hijacked from a liable owner, by unknown assailants next to Barry Marais road and in less than an hour, the robbed vehicle was recovered by the EMPD Training Academy Officers with Cartrack motor vehicles tracking company, in Klippirvier area. At 15h40 in Katlehong area corner Thutong and Sontonga roads, Officers on their way home after a long day, were stopped and approached by desperate ground crew from a motor vehicle tracking company, busy tracing a hijacked sedan. Ready to serve EMPD Officers jumped into action and the Cartrack chopper, was also assigned. The hijacked vehicle travelling in high speed, was spotted by the hovering chopper, on the gravel R550 road in Klippirvier area, following accurate coordinates. The driver made an escape attempt, before the Nissan lost control and rolled into a nearby veldt. A male suspect (the driver) in his 30s, who sustained slight injuries, was handed over to the patrolling Sedibeng SAPS members (since it is their jurisdiction) and he is facing charges of, possession of a robbed/hijacked motor vehicle and failing to stop, when instructed to do so, by Officers in uniform. The arrested suspect, will appear at the relevant Magistrate’s Court soon.
