The 24 year ols was shot in the upper Body

By Nombuso Ntombela

The Katlehong South African Police Services have opened an attempted murder case following a shooting that took place on Sunday (12 January 2020) at Mnisi Section, Katlehong.

Capt Mega Ndobe, Communications Officer for Katlehong police says, the young man was reportedly opening his shop when he saw a white Toyota Corolla, with tinted windows parked a few metres from the place.

"A man allegedly got off from the passenger seat with a firearm in his hand, without any word he opened a fire on the victim. He then climbed back into the vehicle and they sped off," said Ndobe to the media.

The 24-year-old victim was shot in the upper body and he was taken to hospital.

"It was a drive-by shooting,so not a lot of people witnessed the alleged murderer. It’s difficult for the police to gather all the information with the victim being in a critical condition in hospital," Ndobe said.

Cases similar to this have been reported in and around Katlehong, it alleged that murders speed off and there are no witnesses. The police say this makes the investigations to take too long, as often people don’t come forward in most cases.

We hope that the victim will help in finding the suspects once he is better and ready to talk to the police. Also that he must have people that guard his safety while in hospital, since the cause of the shooting is not yet known.

No arrests have been made yet. The Katlehong SAPS is appealing to the community with any information that will help lead to the arrest of the suspects responsible for the attack to come forward.
