THE EMPD DRUG ENFORCEMENT WITH SECURITY & LOSS CONTROL UNITS – EFFECT ARRESTS IN EDEN PARK

On Tuesday (10 Dec) at 07:50 in Eden Park area on Leyland street, armed with information supplied by concerned members of the community, about dodgy characters entering and exiting a certain house from sunset to sunrise, Members of the EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit made their presence felt and a couple was cornered with forbidden drugs.

The Team thoroughly searched the premises and occupants, before 1x digital portable scale, 2x medium bags full of empty ziplocks, 1x large ziplock of straws (paraphernalia), 126x small and medium ziplocks of khat valued at R30 000 with R6760 cash were uncovered. The male and a female suspects who are 34 and 43 years of age were handcuffed. A case of possession and dealing in illicit substance, were opened against the pair, at the Eden Park police station.

Meanwhile in Kempton Park area at 09:30, the EMPD Security and Loss Control Members on patrol, noticed two (2) suspicious males running away from a supermarket, situated at the corner of Long and Margaret. Officers gave chase on foot and a 27-years old male suspect, was cornered and restrained on Long street. The other suspect, managed to evade the arrest. Upon investigations, two (2) male suspects in possession of what looked like a toy gun (according to the shop owner), stormed in at the said supermarket and demanded cigarettes with cash, before the brave businessman drew a steel rod under the counter. Suspects retreated, as they showed him clean pair of heels. It is believed that, the other suspect who got away, was the one (1) in possession of a weapon and the hunt is on. As EMPD Officers delivered the caught suspect, they found the shop owner at Kempton Park police station, busy opening a case of attempted business robbery.

All three (3) apprehended suspects, are expected to appear at the Palmridge and Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court/s soon.
