THIRTEEN SPEEDSTERS ARRESTED BETWEEN SATURDAY AND SUNDAY FOR EXCESSIVE SPEEDING

On Saturday, 1 June between 6:00 and 11:00 on the Northrand road between George Allen and A.G De Wet, the EMPD High Speed Unit members arrested seven (7) speedsters. The following day (2 June), during the morning operation between 6:00 and 11:00 on R21 southbound by N12 bridge, six (6) motorists were apprehended. On Northrand road, seven (7) motorists caught on that 60km/h zone, were doing speeds of between 91 and 101km/h. They were all males driving a Light Delivery Vehicle, SUV’s and sedans aged between 30 and 54, citing reasons of being late for sport, work or visiting a Friend. The seven (7) arrestees were charged at Bedfordview police station with reckless and negligent driving but later released after paying bail of R1,000 each. They are expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon.

The following day (Sun the 2nd) between 6:00 and 11:00 on the R21 freeway direction south by N12 bridge, speed enforcers arrested six (6) speedsters between the ages of 24 and 63yrs. Amongst the speedsters, there was a female and five males driving between 135 and 176km/h on that 100km/h zone stretch of the freeway, citing reasons from late for work and rushing home. They were locked up at Boksburg north police station on a charge of reckless and negligent driving. They were each allowed to go home after parting with R1,000 as bail money. They are expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
