THIRTY TIPSY AND SPEEDERS HANDCUFFED DURING THE THREE DAYS SPECIAL OPERATION

Between Friday 29 November and Sunday 01 December 2019, the EMPD Benoni precinct and Speed Enforcement Unit Officers, arrested thirty (30) lawbreakers in Benoni, Boksburg, Bedfordview and Alberton areas, for driving while intoxicated and for exceeding the stipulated speed limit.

From Friday (29 Nov) up to Saturday (30 Nov) between 18h00 and 2am in Benoni area, twenty four (24) male drivers between the ages of 29 and 52 stopped and breathalyzed by precinct Officers on Princess/Ampthill, Oos, Bunyan and Harper roads, were arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol/being intoxicated and detained, at the Benoni police station following roving roadblocks. On Saturday (30 Nov) between 05:00 and 10:00 in Alberton area, on the N3 freeway direction south by Grey avenue on ramp, the Speed Unit Members arrested three (3) male motorists between the ages of 28 and 44, without any reason for speeding, caught doing between 164 and 166km/h on the throughway requiring 120km/h. The trio were taken to Alberton police station. On Sunday (01 Dec) between 05:00 and 07:00 in Bedfordview area, on the N12 freeway direction west between Edenvale on ramp and Gillooly's interchange, Members enforcing speed stopped and locked up a 47-year old male driving a VW Citi Golf for clocking 174 on the 120km/h zone, citing he was late for work. The speeder was marched to Bedfordview police station. Meanwhile in Alberton area at 09:00, on the N12 freeway direction east by R59 bridge, a 31-year old male Honda motorcycle rider with a female passenger, was apprehended for clocking 198 instead of 120km/h, citing he was taking his wife for breakfast, since today, it is her birthday. The other male driver caught doing 163km/h in a Mazda 2, had no reason for speeding. Both offenders were escorted to Alberton police station. All six (6) motorists apprehended for driving at an excessive speed, were charged with reckless and negligent driving.

The arrested thirty (30) suspects, are expected to appear in Benoni, Palmridge and Germiston Magistrate's Court/s soon.
