THREE ROBBERS IN CUSTODY WITH THE HELP OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS IN TEMBISA

During midday of Wednesday (11 Sept) in Tembisa area on Andrew Mapheto road, Metro Police Officers from Security and Loss Control Unit and Members of the Community, arrested two (2) fleeing suspects and the third was apprehended later, following an armed robbery.

Patrolling Metro Police Officers on a slow moving flow of traffic, witnessed two (2) males jumping out of a white Renault sedan (5 cars ahead of them) where a female pedestrian in her 20s walking on a sidewalk/pavement, was robbed at gun point. Officers responded and suspects in possession of a 9mm pistol and the victims bag containing a bank card and the identity document, ran on foot to different directions. Members of the public who witnessed the ordeal, gave chase to the bag snatcher and Officers went for the armed suspect. Both suspects age 22 and 25 were apprehended and Police recovered the ladies bag and an empty (without rounds) 9mm Z88 pistol with serial numbers tempered with.

The 32-year old male third suspect (the driver), was picked up an hour later by EMPD Anti Cable Theft Unit members, at his girlfriend house in Sedibeng following a tip off. The white Renault sedan registered to the 32yr old suspect's girlfriend, was impounded to SAPS Van Ryn's Deep in Benoni for further investigations, because it was used in commission of a crime (armed robbery). All three (3) suspects were booked in, at the Tembisa police station and charged with possession of unlicensed firearm with armed robbery. They are expected to appear at the Tembisa Magistrate's Court soon.

A visible shaky lady victim is unscathed and she received a shock treatment (brief trauma counseling), at the police station.
