During the continued monitoring of the illegal mining and illegal miners hotspots on monday (23 Sept) at 06:00, the EMPD Tracing Unit members apprehended two (2) male suspects, who were confronted in the remote area on the veld.
Officers stopped and searched the pair who are 29 and 33 years of age, found idling not far from Golden drive mine in Benoni. Two (2) 9mm parabellum pistols with serial numbers tempered with and 19x live rounds were seized.
The suspects were taken to the Benoni police station and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms with ammunitions. They will appear in the Benoni Magistrate's Court soon.
