WEEKEND SPEED ENFORCEMENT IN THE SOUTHERN REGION

Saturday speed enforcement operation on the N12 freeway, direction east between Reading interchange and Voortrekker off ramp, including the one on Hennie Alberts road between Hart and Michelle in Alberton area, yielded two (2) arrests. The arrests took place between 05:00 and 11:00 in the morning.


The N12 freeway which is deemed to be a 120km/h zone, was tested by a 21-year old male with a female passenger driving a grey Hyundai Getz, who stated that they were late for work, by clocking 179km/h. A 25-year old male in a red Suzuki motorcycle who claimed he was visiting his Father in Johannesburg, driving on Hennie Alberts road, was stopped for doing 144km/h on a 60km/h zone. The speedsters were each locked up at Alberton and Brackendowns police stations.



Meanwhile, on sunday(20 Oct) in Edenvale area, on the N3 freeway direction south between Linksfield on ramp and Gillooly's interchange at 06:10, Officers stopped a white BMW sedan driven by the 36-year old male with two (2) female passengers for clocking 170km/h on that 120km/h stretch of the freeway. The wrongdoer was taken to Bedfordview police station. Between 09:00 and 10:00 in Boksburg area, two (2) speeding Toyota Fortuner and the Audi A3 were caught doing speeds of 157 and 158km/h, on the R21 freeway direction south between Griffiths on ramp and N12 bridge, on that 100km/h zone. Both offenders were taken to the Boksburg north police station.



All five (5) arrested suspects facing charges of reckless and negligent driving, will appear at Palmridge, Germiston and Boksburg Magistrate's Court/s soon.
