WEEKEND SPEED OPERATION YIELDS "4 ARRESTS IN ALBERTON AND BEDFORDVIEW"

Between Saturday (24 Aug) and Sunday (25 Aug), the EMPD Speed unit members in the Southern region conducted a monitoring operation in Alberton and Bedfordview where four (4) lawbreakers were nabbed. On Saturday between 08:00 and 13h00, two (2) speedsters were stopped on the N12 freeway direction east by R59 (Reading interchange). A 24-year old female driving a VW SUV, who alleged that she was picking up her Mom for lunch, was apprehended for clocking 171 km/h instead of 120 km/h. The other driver in a BMW sedan, was locked up for doing 164 km/h. Both drivers were escorted to the Alberton police station. Today (25 August) between 06:00 and 11:00, on the N12 freeway direction west by Sam Green bridge, the 44-year old female driver in a BMW sedan, was stopped for doing 168 km/h on that 120 km/h zone after claiming that, she was driving to her house. The other motorist clocked 166 km/h. Together, they were taken to the Bedfordview police station.All the arrestees were charged with reckless and negligent driving. They are expected to appear in the Palmridge and Germiston Magistrate’s Court/s soon.
