A bus driver was instantly killed in a crash involving what is alleged to have been a stationary truck on N3 freeway south bound before N17 freeway split, in Germiston on Friday night (the 24th January 2020) at around 21H30.
As per information on scene, the only driver in the bus who was still to load passengers in Germiston city centre heading to Marble-Hall in Limpopo, was declared deceased by paramedics after suffering poly trauma from a crash with a truck that loaded a huge container. Apparently, the bus came from behind and the driver didn’t notice that the truck was stationery as a result, he crashed onto the rear of a truck and was killed instantly.
Rescue team from Germiston central fire station, on their arrival, after scene assessment and size-up, they noticed that the bus driver was motionless and trapped behind the steering wheel. The team used specialised hydraulic rescue equipment “Jaws of Life” to recover him from the wreckage however, the truck driver escaped unharmed.
The deceased “bus driver” , was then handed over to forensic pathologists for removal to an appropriate facility.
Four lanes of the freeway were affected and had to be closed for the duration of the operation leaving only one for traffic flow.The scene was handed over to City of Ekurhuleni traffic officers who conducted investigations.
