COGTA admits that political interference knee-halters municipalities

Media release by: FF Plus MP

The Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA)admitted that political interference is knee-haltering progress at municipalities that have been placed under Section 139 administration.

During a presentation delivered on Thursday morning before the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) by the Deputy Minister of COGTA, Parks Tau,examples were provided of municipalities where there have been interventions, but that have shown no improvement due to political interference.

Tau basically admitted that faction fights within the ANC, political instability and dysfunctional councils are the main reasons for why the Section 139 interventions have been unsuccessful.

As many as 40 municipalities are currently under administration and still the Deputy Minister believes that political interventions are what is needed.

Such interventions will only be successful if the ANC takes internal political action against corrupt and incompetent mayors, councillors, councils and officials and gets rid of them. The ANC, however, is not doing what is needed and keeps blaming Apartheid for all South Africa's problems.

Tau's admission exposes the ANC's Apartheid rhetoric as nothing but poor excuses for its own failures. It is the ANC municipalities that are under administration and that are not showing any improvement.

The ANC, and only the ANC, is to blame for the terrible state of our country and its municipalities.
