COUNTERFEIT GOODS SEIZED AND ILLEGALLY OPERATED LIQUOR OUTLETS CLOSED DOWN

On Tuesday 27 August 2019 between 08:00 and 14h00 in Springs area, the South African Police Service members from nine (9) components including Specialized Task Teams, EMPD members with Traffic Wardens and three (3) other entities from government compliance departments, visited Springs Central Business District and operation 'O KAE MOLAO' was activated.

The operation focused on crime prevention with Police visibility and business places inspections for compliance. Roving roadblocks were staged where six (6) stop and searches were conducted, two hundred and thirty seven (237) people with fifty six (56) motor vehicles were searched. Among other items found in buildings and inside suspicious motor vehicles with doubtful occupants, Police confiscated counterfeit cigars, spices, blades, liquor, knifes, pens and expired food. Nine (9) fines were issued to hand goods dealers and second hand traders, eleven (11) liquor outlets were visited within the CBD and three (3) were legitimate, four (4) illegally operated (fines were posed) and four (4) were shut down, due to noncompliance. Four (4) undocumented persons and three (3) suspects were taken to the Springs police station for, possession of suspected stolen items (shopping trolley and laptop), interfering with Officers duties and one, booked in under the migration ACT.

Arrested suspects are expected to appear at the Springs Magistrate's Court soon.
