Extended working hours at Home Affairs

The Department of Home Affairs has temporarily extended its working hours to meet the anticipated increase for its services before the schools reopens.

The extended operating hours will be from 8am to 7pm (Monday to Thursday),and that will last until 10 January . Siya Qoza, spokesperson for the Minister of Home Affairs, says at the beginning of each year, the Department of Home Affairs experiences increases in demand for enabling documents, such as issuing of smart ID cards and passports, birth and death certificates etc.“The Department will ensure that everyone who is inside the office before the time of closing receives required services.

“Office mangers/ supervisors are to apply their discretion to close the office 30 minutes before knocking-off time, subject to the number of people being served.

“This is to allow officials to include all the necessary work before 7pm.”

Qoza also urged people to arrive early at their offices. Additionally, the department says there is a large number of smart IDs that have not been collected. Home Affairs Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi also congratulated parents of Christmas and New Year’s babies and urged them to register the birth of children with Department of Home Affairs before 30 days.

After registration, the children will have birth certificates, their first enabling documents. People who do not have difficulties in acquiring other enabling documents and accessing dome government services in future.
