6000 sanitary pads were donated to Ekurhuleni and then distributed between different townships. Kganyago and her team have been donating sanitary pads country wide before the celebration of Mandela day. “I have noticed that food parcels are being donated but there is no one thing that is very essential to women, that is sanitary pads and that is where I came in.” Kganyago said. With the large portion of sanitary pads she donated, she is hoping that they will be enough especially for young girls.

Kganyago’s visit was warmly embraced by the Mayor of Ekurhuleni Mzwandile Masina. “I thank Lerato for the contribution she made across Ekurhuleni and it proves that people in the creative industry contribute a lot, and not just by their art but also by their own conviction.” Said the Mayor. However, the Mayor was very transparent about the nature of the donation in the presence of the opposition party EFF that City of Ekurhuleni did not pay for anything. “It was a donation so you know we are here as public servants to contribute our time.” The Mayor.
