Gauteng government to relaunch drug prevention programme

ON FRIDAY - the Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) will re-launch its GCR Anti-Substance Abuse Social Movement campaign, themed Keep it 100.

The relaunch follows a series of consultations with stakeholders in the sector to consolidate inputs to develop a 3-year programme of action.

The campaign, which was launched by Gauteng Premier David Makhura in 2016 at Eldorado Park, will continue to intensify efforts to combat substance abuse in the province and to effectively respond to the Prevention of and Treatment for Substance Abuse Act, 70 of 2008 and the National Drug Master Plan.

Social Development MEC Thuliswa Khawe says government remains committed in strengthening partnerships with civil society organisations, communities, the business sector, as well as the media in combating the scourge of substance abuse.

"We want to reignite the support of multi-stakeholder groupings behind the social movement campaign. As such, we want to mobilise all communities to join hands with government and take action in combating alcohol and drug abuse."

"Together we will realise the dream of a drug free Gauteng City Region by pulling the plug on drugs and alcohol abuse," the MEC added.
