Lack of drainage is a nightmare in Tembisa during rainy days

The streets of Tembisa are always over floating of water during rainy days. The location is one of the largest townships in Ekurhuleni, residents have to rush home when they see that the rain is coming ,because the streets are always over floating with rain water without drainage system nearby. Even motorists who are driving small vehicles also have to rush home when it’s raining to avoid the over floating of waters in the streets.

The victims who suffers the most are the ones who are based on the bottom of the hill as waters float straight to their homes. They have to fight with the in their house. Xolani Zulu, one of the victims that resides on the bottom of the hill in Winnie Mandela section,Tembisa, adds, we don’t sleep a wink when it’s raining heavily. Residents monitor the floating water that comes straight to their home, they deal with the water right inside the house. He says ,as the head of the house it’s his responsibility to ensure that his family have a peaceful sleep while busy sacrificing his resting time to fight the water in rainy days. He adds,the tough part comes the next day when he’s at work, because of lack of sleep.

Xolani Zulu and his neighbours are making a call out from anyone who can help in installing the drainage system so they don’t have to be fighting water over night when it’s raining. he says, I will be honoured if this problem that we’ve been fighting for years is no longer at risk. He conclude, I will be at peace knowing that I’m able to take care of my family without worrying of losing job due to lack of sleep. Street vendors are also victims of the situation, they also have to pack up their stuff and close their businesses when it starts to rain in Tembisa, the over floating waters chase everyone out of the streets. Not only that is the reason to pack up and leave there business places, the water situation puts them in a place where it invade their positions and leave them with no choice but to leave.

For those whom have never been to Tembisa during rainy days, it would be advisable to know that next time they visit the best option will be dress accordingly and be ready for the worst. Town planners should come with innovative ways which could be used to install this drainage system to help the community of Tembisa in this tragedy they face during rainy days.
