MEC TASNEEM MOTARA KICKS OFF AUGUST WITH SITE VISIT MONDAY(TODAY)

The MEC of Infrastructure Development, Ms. Tasneem Motara will today (Monday 5 August 2019) undertake a visit to several sites that the Department is busy with in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni. The inspections form part of Site Visit Mondays, where the MEC spends time to check on progress on the different projects the Department is undertaking on behald of our clients. These sites include the Phillip Moyo Community Health Centre, Amos Maphanga High School, George Mbilase Primary School, and Dr. Harry Gwala Secondary School. The projects are at different levels of completion and have all faced challenges such as work stoppages owing to community protests and other factors. Phillip Moyo Community Health Centre: The building of the new-section consists of the following: • Maternity and Obstetric unit; • Remodeled pharmacy, dental and X-ray units; • An upgrade ambulance road; • New medical waste area and screen walls; • New fencing to two boundaries; • Construct outdoor gym, recreational and exercise areas; • And civil works for the above projects. Dr. Harry Gwala Secondary School It is a mega secondary school. The school is also one of the key facilities contributing to the development of education within the Etwata Region. It was identified and prioritized as one of the schools to be upgraded to being a smart school, by the Gauteng Department of Education. The project is structured to encourage participation and opportunity to previously disadvantaged individuals / contractors and Affirmable Business Enterprises, without compromising standards and skills. The project also provides skills through employment of the participants of EPWP. It also provided transfer of skills through training, as per the recent EPWP framework. George Mbilase Primary School Restoration and Repairs works to George Mbilase Primary School is a perfect example of maintenance and extension of functional lifespan improvement and therefore provision of better learning facilities by the government to the community of Etwatwa (Benoni). George Primary School is situated at 3388 1st Str. Etwatwa East; Benoni, Gauteng, and is classified as a main stream primary school. The facility caters 840 leaners from Grade R to Grade 7 consisting of 28 learning areas. The school is a mainstream facility with a design based on the initial prototype that incorporates Department of Education National Schools Infrastructure Norms and Standards. Amos Maohanga Secondary School The facility was established to accommodate higher grade school pupils. The school is funded by the Gauteng Department of Education. The school facilities are situated at 13908 Guinea Fowl street, Etwatwa, Daveyton in Benoni. The school consist of mobile classrooms only there is no brick and mortar structures. The project is structured in a way that caters for participation and opportunity to previously disadvantaged individuals/contractors and Affirmable Business Enterprises, without compromising standards and skills. The project also provides skills through employment and training of the participants of EPWP, subject the approval of funds. “It is imperative to contribute towards the radical transformation, modernization and re-industrialization of Gauteng by accelerating integrated service delivery. This includes maintenance and management of public infrastructure and deploying build environment professionals while encouraging the active participation of an empowered citizenry,” says MEC Motara. It is also expected that depending on the progress, the MEC and her team will do the inspections on a six-week cycle to ensure delivery and enable the communities to benefit from these facilities. The handover dates will be communicated once the projects are complete and ready.
