RAND WATER TO WORK WITH MUNICIPAL CUSTOMERS TO MANAGE DEMAND

Rand Water commits to working with its municipal customers in Gauteng, North West, Free State and Mpumalanga provinces to manage water demand requirements. This comes after the shutdown of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project tunnel which began on the 1st of October and will remain in effect until the 30th of November 2019.  The tunnel will be shut and drained for inspection and maintenance purposes thus suspending water transfers into the Integrated Vaal River System.  The Department of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation has given the assurance that there are contingency plans in place to ensure that there is no interruption in the supply of raw water.

The Integrated Vaal River System from which Rand Water sources its raw water supply via the Vaal Dam is currently at 76 percent capacity.

Rand Water joins the Department of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation and its municipal customers in their appeal for consumers to use water sparingly and to adhere to their respective municipal water restrictions.
