Tshwelopele Secondary School set a target like other previous years, they wanted pass rate of 95% learners in 2019 matric. This target was set from the 2018 results. Unfortunately they didn’t only miss to reach the target, but also failed to maintain the highest percentage according to their school history. The principal of the school Mrs R Dikgale says, she’s still confident that the target they set in 2019, is going to be reached in future.
In conversation with the Principal, for them to reach the target it is not only the learners that should work hard, but also the educators, parents and the community at larger. It is true that it takes a village to grow a child.
The principal explains, we have been working hard to make sure that they pass with large number, because they have crowded classes. It does not mean that everyone that enrolled with the school will automatically pass to the next level, but it means that they are going to help each other pass with satisfying results. Hard work really does pay out.
Tshwelopele Secondary School it’s still new, looking at the history of the school they only started to have a class of grade 12 in 2014. The school's results from 2014 have been going up and down, but not in manner where parents would complain that their children are not doing well at school. In 2014 the school obtained 76.92% , which it was the first grade 12 class of Tshwelopele Secondary School. The second class in 2015 obtained 79.70% and that was an improvement from the first class percentage. The 2016 class dropped to 73.68% , that’s when the Principal decided to offer learners more time to spend on their studies so they can familiarise themselves with the content. I was their turn around strategy to improve the school’s marks and build reputation,so that parents around Tshwelopele area can send their children to the school next to home.
The turn around strategy that the principal has introduced really helped the school to improve their marks, because in 2017 they managed to obtain 84.44% and ever since the strategy was implemented Tswelopelo Secondary School has never obtained anything less than 70% .The 2018 results tops the list with 91.4% . The principal added, we are looking forward to improve from last year results, because we are still looking and hoping that they we will one day obtain 100% pass rate with quality passes.
Tshwelopele Secondary School is based in Tshwelopele section, Tembisa. They have one official Principal Mrs Dikgale, who took over the school from March in 2011.
