On Saturday (5th of October) , Phumzile Mcangangwa (32) from Daveyton organized a soup day for drug addicts. she had a talk with them, before giving them food . Phumzile has been doing it for a period of a year now. She drafted the initiative before, it was only on Mandela day where she decided to cook for addicts and realized how much she loves them. Phumzile said, it was something that came from her heart and she realized the connection with them. She sees them as normal people with great potential. Addicts expressed themselves and were grateful for the love they had been given. Some stated that they do the things because of how the community treats them.“They treat us like animals,” addicts also explained how they’d like to change. Some had gone to rehabs already but it didn’t help them, what helps them from stop smoking is to keep themselves busy. “But you can’t be busy with the same things every day, that’s why we end up getting tempted of using drugs over and ove.”They stated how smoking nyaope affects their relationship with people. One added, the reason of not bathing is because they wonder what’s missing on the other side.
