The Gauteng Executive Council led by, Premier David Makhura, decided that all Community Police Forums (CPFs) and 3000 Community Patrollers be activated to assist citizens of Gauteng in managing queues in malls, shopping centres and all other hotspots where such challenges might be identified. This is only during the 21-days of Lockdown. This project will include the pension and social grant days that will take place in the coming week.
This decision was taken in the wake of what was observed in the first day of the Lockdown period, where it became apparent that many of Gauteng’s citizens are susceptible to possible infections because of non-compliance with the set standards, especially, when conducting shopping. The community patrollers are deployed as part of the Gauteng Provincial Government Essential Services team, and they will be reporting to the Community Policing Relations unit of the Department of Community Safety. They have been issued with Essential Services Permits by the Department.
